A group of students at Texas Tech is making a big difference in the community.
Connor Disbrow and Grahm Lingor are the co-founders of the Tech Volunteer Service Organization.
“It’s crucial because now is the time you’re going to form the habits that you’re going to follow the rest of your life in college,” explains Disbrow. “So forming these habits of service now, I think that’ll carry us throughout our lives.”
The group of about 45 students goes all over Lubbock and volunteers at a number of places.
“We try and look at opportunities every week and just try and help out,” Lingor says. “We’ve worked at the Haven Animal Shelter and retirement facilities.”
“And just last week we made mosaic pieces for Make-A-Wish so that was awesome,” Disbrow adds.
This time around, they’re helping at the South Plains Food Bank and helping feed the thousands of people in need in our own backyard.
“Right now we’re working with some corn flakes, just scooping and bagging them. And these will eventually go to people who need them,” says Disbrow.
Both Disbrow and Lingor say with so many different outlets of volunteering, they hope their good deeds will inspire others to give back.
“Don’t just think about it, go out and do it,” says Lingor. “Get involved. There’s always something you can do to get involved.”
