The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) was called to a one-vehicle crash on US-60 that occurred Monday in Deaf Smith County, resulting in the death of one person.

At approximately 4:03 p.m., Roberto Vazques, 22, of Hereford, was driving a 2004 Chevrolet Silverado pick-up truck east on US-60 approximately three and a half miles west of Hereford. Vazques veered to the left and off the roadway into the center median. In an attempt to get back onto the roadway, Vazques over-corrected the vehicle to the right and lost control. The Chevrolet pick-up truck skidded across both eastbound lanes of travel and into the south barrow ditch where it collided into a utility pole on the driver side.

Vazques was pronounced dead on scene by Deaf Smith County Justice of the Peace, Karen Boren.

The contributing factor that caused Vazques to initially leave the roadway is unknown at this time and is still under investigation.

The road conditions were dry and no other vehicles were involved.

Vazques was wearing his seat belt.
