The Lubbock Chamber of Commerce presented its Spring 2016 Water Smart Business Award to the High Plains Underground Water Conservation District on May 26. The award recognizes chamber members who have implemented water conservation measures ranging from water-smart landscaping and rainwater harvesting to installing water-efficient fixtures in their businesses.

“High Plains Underground Water Conservation District is honored for actively promoting water conservation since 1951. This year, they hosted the first annual Water Advancement, Technology, Training, & Solutions (WATTS) Conference,” said Stevie Poole, Government Relations Specialist.

“Whether reusing water in agriculture or reclaiming wastewater for a city, the conference encouraged people to ‘think blue’ by making efforts to preserve and protect our most precious resource. The goal of the WATTS conference was to highlight the water conservation efforts of innovative West Texans and encourage others to take similar approaches in saving water,” Poole added.

The presentation was made during the Lubbock Chamber of Commerce board meeting at Reese Technology Center.
