Levelland High School kicked off preseason on Monday at 6:30 in the morning to beat the heat.
Jared Sanderson, the Levelland Athletic Director and Head Football Coach, said they educate their kids on what dehydration can do to the body.
“That’s really one reason we go so early in the morning, right now they call it acclamation period where you can only where helmets before you get into pads. But I think these next three weeks are going to be a period for us to really prepare ourselves for the afternoon heat that we are going to see whenever school starts,” Sanderson said.
Sanderson added the team also has a great training staff.
“Coach Jackson has five or six kids out there who are constantly walking with water bottles to give to the players during breaks or when they need it,” Sanderson said.
He also added that no players have been injured this preseason due to the heat.
Levelland will open up the season against Muleshoe on August 26.
