High schools across the South Plains have started to add golf teams to their athletic departments. In only their third year as a competitive team All Saints Episcopal High School Men’s Golf Team recently won the TAPPS 2A State Tournament.
“I get to play with my friends that I respect and I get to be a part of the team that can win state. It’s really fun and exhilarating when you do win state for your school and everyone is congratulating you and your team. It’s really fun being kind of like a family,” Jackson Drake, a freshman on the team said.
Drake said their team has done so well thanks to their leader Coach Leon Van Rensburg.
“Leon is awesome. I take lessons from him. He helps me with my swing. He’s built me from the ground up and helped me through everything and I think many more years will come with that,” Drake said.
Coach Van Rensburg said he can count on this team to stay grounded and focused on winning their tournaments.
“They’re all dedicated, I don’t have to work really hard with them. They’re all really motivated to play, it’s a good team,” Van Rensburg said.
