A suspect was taken into custody just before 10:40 Wednesday morning after leading DPS officers on a high-speed chase. It lasted a little less than 15 minutes.

“A trooper was stopping a 2004 GMC for a speeding violation,” Cpl. John Gonzales with the Texas Department of Public Safety said. “He made contact with the driver, was trying to identify the driver, and at that time the driver sped away.”

The driver, Gabriel Dominguez, 36, was wanted for parole violations for evading arrest with a motor vehicle.

It started near 19th Street and Iola Avenue and went as far east as 58th Street and Avenue P. The chase then went back west to 64th Street and Elgin Avenue. A DPS helicopter and Lubbock Police also joined the chase.

Cpl. Gonzales said, “The vehicle lost control and crashed into the parking lot.”

The chase ended when the suspect’s SUV crashed into a sign in front of Redeemer Church. A summer camp at the church was in session and children were in the parking lot playing when the crash happened. No kids were harmed in the crash.
