On Tuesday May 9, 2017 at approximately 9:14 a.m., officers from the Hobbs Police Department were dispatched to the 300 block of W. Castle for a gunshot victim. Officers located the victim identified as Ray Romero (29) of Hobbs, NM. Romero had apparently suffered a superficial gunshot wound to the back of his head. Romero was taken to Lea Regional Medical Center by ambulance and was treated and released.
The suspect in this matter has been identified as Robert Francisco Bazan (43) of Gaines County, TX. Bazan was not located and his whereabouts are currently unknown. A warrant for his arrest was issued by Hobbs Magistrate Judge Willie Henry charging him with Attempted Murder, a second degree felony. Bazan’s bond was set at $80,000.00 cash/surety by Judge Henry.
This matter remains under investigation by the Hobbs Police Department.
