Geraldine Sprys’ house is a winter wonderland. Her love of the holiday season is one of the reasons why she is upset that someone cut a string of her Christmas lights.

She claimed that the incident happened sometime Friday or Saturday while she was away from her south Lubbock house.

“I noticed that half of my candy cane lights were out,” Sprys said. “I went and looked at why it was not on and I noticed that the wire had been cut.”

“This is a season to be happy, and everybody wants to have a nice house, and it just seemed really mean for somebody to do something like that,” she added.

Sprys said she does not know who would have cut her candy cane lights.

“It’s just really sad that there are some Grinches out there at Christmas time,” she mentioned.

“I saved the lights and you can see that it was cut with a knife or scissors, because it’s a straight, flat, cut. if it had been an animal, it would have been gnawed,” Sprys explained.

The grandmother of six had a message for the culprit.

“I just hope that you don’t do this to anybody else and that you rethink why you did it,” she said. “This is a season for people to come together, and be happy, it’s not a time for things like this.”

She said a neighbor of hers recently experienced a similar situation, and she may add additional security systems to her home following both incidents.

She has already replaced the broken string of lights, and plans to carry on her celebration of the holidays.

“I’m going to continue to decorate because that’s what Christmas is all about,” she said.
