With Halloween less than a week away, it’s a busy time for party stores in the area. Party Plus Warehouse is offering 800 different costumes, but there are some that are more popular this season.

“Suicide Squad, with Harley Quinn and the Joker…that has been a humongous hit,” says Kim Hodges, Owner of Party Plus Warehouse. “Ghostbusters has really been a hit this year too and that kind of surprised me.”

Other popular costumes include the Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump masks along with inflatable costumes, which are selling out much quicker than Hodges expected.

“We ordered a ton of Hilary and Trump masks. It’s election year, and they’ve been flying off the shelves,” Hodges says.

She says one costume that she has been surprised to see people looking for is the traditional Disney princess dresses.

“Everybody is wanting like the traditional Cinderella, instead of the Cinderella movie dress. Some things like that, you know, have been around for a long time and they kind of fade out, because they’ve got new ones, and now they’re kind of wanting the older stuff back,” she says.

Hodges says she orders costumes as early as February of the previous year, which make it more difficult for her to pinpoint what will be trending in October.

“We go to market in January, and our orders have to be placed in February,” she says.

Hodges says she has noticed more and more people coming in and making their own costumes using different accessories like tutus, wings, and boas.

“There’s a lot more college students and adults putting together their own costumes…create your own, which to me is what is fun about Halloween instead of just going and looking at the wall and picking a costume off that everybody else is going to have. Build your own…make your own. We have a lot of things that we can do that with and help y’all put together a unique costume,” Hodges says.

If you’re wondering about clown outfits with all the recent hysteria, Hodges says she has kept them on the shelves, but hasn’t sold many this year.

“I hadn’t sold hardly any clown stuff until the beginning of last week,” Hodges says.

Party Plus Warehouse will be open the rest of the week and even on Halloween day for those last minute shoppers. Decorations and props are already on sale, but the costumes will not go on sale until after the holiday.
