Hotel Temporarily Evacuated for Fire Started by Cigarette

An overnight fire led to the temporary evacuation of Red Roof Inn, 6624 Interstate 27.  Firefighters were called before 4:00 a.m. Tuesday.  Lubbock Fire Rescue found a fire in a room on the third floor.  A victim was recovered from the room and taken to University Medical Center for smoke inhalation.

“[The] fire was ruled accidental due to cigarette smoking,” LFR said. “Fire and smoke damage was minimal.”

Guests were allowed to return to their rooms after LFR cleared out smoke and carbon monoxide.  Only the one injury was mentioned by LFR.
