On June 2, 2015, around 2:15 p.m., an armed suspect entered the Human Services Department building located at 220 Crosset Lane in Anthony, NM.
After entering the building the suspect shot an on-duty security officer, then immediately left the premises. New Mexico State Police issued a BOLO for the suspect and his vehicle to surrounding law enforcement agencies and Texas law enforcement agencies.
Shortly after the BOLO, El Paso County Sheriff’s deputies located the suspect driving on South Desert Boulevard in El Paso County, Texas. Deputies subsequently conducted a traffic stop. When deputies approached the suspect they discovered he had a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The suspect was pronounced deceased. No law enforcement personnel fired any weapons.
The security guard is currently in surgery in critical condition.
Multiple witnesses are being interviewed at this time. The names of those involved and further details of this incident will be released as more information is obtained.
The New Mexico State Police Investigations Bureau is investigating this incident in conjunction with the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office.
