Long-time Idalou resident Susan Kirk says she feels like she has one of the best jobs in town: working at the Driscoll Pharmacy.
“I started out being a stay at home mom, and I babysat a few kids too,” said Kirk. “And then I started working for the flower shop, but I think this is my last stop because I really like it here [Driscoll’s].”
The Driscoll family started the business in 1978 at its previous location down Main Street where it was complete with marble countertops and a soda fountain. In 1987, it moved to its present location off the frontage road, but one thing that has never changed over the years is its commitment to its community.
“We have a good name behind us,” said Kirk. “The Driscoll’s have always had a big name so they provide a lot more than just services here, and when you see them out on the street you know they’re gonna shake your hand, tell ya ‘hello,’ make you feel like they really do care.”
In the far back is where the pharmacists are hard at work, making sure prescriptions are filled, but of course, before customers can reach the end of the store, they need to first pass by the aisles of gifts, home decor and treats.
“I grab them when they come through the door and say ‘when you’re done at the pharmacy come here, I need to show you this!’”
In addition to your medicine, almost anything you need can be found at the Driscoll Pharmacy: home and dorm decor, last-minute shower gifts, furniture, trendy kitchenware, several brands of jewelry… you name it, Susan Kirk tell us, she’ll show it to you.
“We try to help everybody we can, and they all walk out the door smiling so we must be doing something right.”
