The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) is set to begin work on a project that will make safety improvements, including upgrading ramps to meet Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) standards, to north University Avenue, from US 82 (Marsha Sharp Freeway) to Amherst Street, in the city of Lubbock.

The $940,883 project will build sidewalks, add street illumination and upgrade ramps to meet ADA regulations. TxDOT is managing the federally and city funded project. Work to make the improvements is scheduled to begin Monday, Feb. 29, said Will Barnett, P.E., TxDOT Lubbock Area engineer.

“Most of the work will take place off the roadway, but drivers should avoid parking curbside on University Avenue to allow for equipment staging. Motorists are encouraged to park on side streets during construction,” Barnett said.

Construction is anticipated to be completed in June 2016. Ti-Zak Concrete, Inc., Le Center, MN, is the project contractor.
