A north Texas father has been arrested and charged with Manslaughter after his child was left in a hot car and passed away Tuesday afternoon.

The Collin County Sheriff’s Office says first responders arrived on scene at a home in Melissa, Texas, and discovered a 6-month-old infant unresponsive.

A press release says, “The deputies were told that the child had been left in the car.  The investigation is ongoing and limited details are available at this time.”

The child was pronounced deceased, and her father, Michael Thedford, 33, was arrested and booked into the Collin County Jail on the Manslaughter charge.

CBS Affiliate KTVT reports Thedford was released from jail Wednesday morning after posting a $20,000 bond.

This child was the 16th child in the United States to pass away after being left in a hot car in 2016, according to KidsandCars.org. They claim this an increase of over 230% from the 7 children who passed away after being left in a hot car during the same time period in 2015.
