Emergency crews responded to a rollover with injuries on FM 41, approximately 2 miles west of Slaton late Saturday morning.

The Texas Department of Public Safety, Slaton Fire Department, University Medical Center EMS, and the Lubbock County Sheriff’s Office were among the first-responders on scene.

According to DPS, a 2003 GMC Yukon was heading westbound on FM 41 when the driver went off the right edge of the roadway. DPS said she attempted to overcorrect multiple times, and ended up in a bar ditch.

The driver, identified by DPS as May Clyde Smith, 80, a Lubbock resident, was transported to UMC by ambulance. Her seat belt was cut during the crash, so it was unclear if she was wearing it at the time of the accident, a DPS spokesperson said.

The front seat passenger, Lindsey Aldous, 24, also of Lubbock, was transported to Covenant Medical Center.

DPS said a 10-year-old girl who was in the back seat, was ejected in the rollover. She was airlifted by AeroCare to UMC. DPS said she is from Dallas, and is Smith’s great-granddaughter. A DPS spokesperson said it did not appear that the child was wearing a seat belt.

DPS said all three people were expected to recover.

It was unclear if speed, alcohol, or drugs were factors in the crash, but DPS indicated the crash was still under investigation.
