Iowa Man Killed in Potter County Traffic Accident Saturday Afternoon, DPS Reports

The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) was called to a two-vehicle crash Saturday on US-60 in Randall County, resulting in the death of one person.

At approximately 4:30 p.m., Rogelio Rangel, 29, of Dumas was driving a 2003 Kenworth truck tractor semi-trailer westbound on US-60 approximately one mile west of Umbarger. Christopher Vandenberg, 24, of Sioux Center, Iowa, was driving a 2014 Peterbilt truck tractor semi-trailer eastbound on US-60. Vandenberg crossed over the center median, traveled into the westbound lane and collided into the semi-trailer of the Kenworth truck tractor, driven by Rangel.

Vandenberg was pronounced dead on scene by Randall County Justice of the Peace, Jerry Bigham.

Rangel was not injured.

The factor that contributed to Vandenberg leaving the roadway is still under investigation.

The road conditions were dry and no other vehicles were involved.
