Detective Adam Freeman, the Lubbock Police Departments honoree for the 13th Annual Unsung Hero Awards, said he’s just one of hundreds in the police department worthy of the honor.

Lubbock Police Chief Greg Stevens said it’s that kind of selflessness that Freeman is being honored for.

“He’s one of those guys who shows up early, he goes home late, he’s always willing to step forward he helps others and he’s just that all around kind of guy that we can count on and depend on,” Chief Stevens said.

Freeman was chosen by his LPD colleagues to receive the award. A fireman, EMS person and Sheriff’s Deputy are also recipients.

“It made me feel good knowing that somebody had recognized it,” Freeman said. “There’s plenty of other people up here that are well-deserving of it as well, I’m still kind of in shock over it.”

The Lubbock native originally enrolled in South Plains College before dropped out to join the Marine Corps.

After two tours in Iraq, he came back to his hometown and joined the police force in 2007.

“That’s what I’m here for is to help the public I want to work their cases make sure justice is sought for the victims the ones that commit the crimes are held responsible,” he said.

“When you say perseverance he comes to mind right away,” Chief Stevens said. “A lot of the cases he works –from ones that aren’t very complex or involved to some of our most complex and most involved–its the way that he goes after them, that kind of dedication.”

Freeman said when he accepts his award his two daughters and wife, who’s expecting their first baby boy, will be there.

“I’m hoping my wife doesn’t go into labor,” Freeman said.
