The Islamic Center of Lubbock has started taking extra precautions this week to ensure the safety of their community. They grew especially concerned after recent attacks on a Mosque in Quebec, Canada, killing six on Sunday.
“We are increasing the security at our mosque. A few days ago a mosque was burnt in Victoria, Texas,” said Samer Altabaa, the Imam of Islamic Center.
There is no confirmation yet on what started the fire on the mosque that burned down in Victoria, Texas. But Altabaa says the Islamic Center of the South Plains is still asking police for extra support, especially during large events.
“We are so worried. We are watching and making sure everything is safe and secure,” said Altabaa.
Even though they are increasing security, Altabaa says they are happy to be here in Lubbock and are overwhelmed but the outpour of support.
“We are getting enormous support from this community. The phone does not stop ringing receiving calls of support,” said Altabaa.
