A week before Garth Brooks takes to the stage in Lubbock for the first time in two-decades, some ticket prices through third-party vendors were marked down 90 percent.
On marketplace StubHub, tickets were available for Thursday’s performance for as low as $6 at one point.
A representative from the team handling public relations and ticket sales for the ‘Garth Brooks World Tour with Trisha Yearwood’ said she was unaware of the dramatic decrease in ticket costs. She reiterated that the only official source of tickets to the shows were at the tour’s website.
The country star is scheduled to perform on March 30 and 31 at 7:00 p.m., April 1 at 3:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m., and April 2 at 3:00 p.m.
All concerts will be at the United Supermarkets Arena on the Texas Tech Campus.
Johnna Hoff, a spokesperson for StubHub said “everything appears to be fine” on the part of the ticket marketplace. She said the tickets and prices were “valid” on the StubHub site, also explaining that the company does not handle inventory or set prices.
Hoff offered a possible explanation for the low prices, saying that there was likely a high number of tickets and “lower than expected demand.”
She mentioned that Brooks is a “bucket list” performer for many people and encouraged the purchase of tickets to the concerts.
Cindy Harper, with United Supermarkets Arena, said on the day the tour was announced, “We’re really excited to be able to provide this opportunity to Texas Tech and the Lubbock community, but also excited for travel and tourism, folks that will come from outside the region to this event.”
“He draws far and wide and I know that he will, I know that this house is going to be full,” Harper said in January.
