The winter holiday just ended but Deborah Oconnor at Bell Travel agency said Wednesday that it’s not too early to start thinking about your next vacation.
“If you want top choice I would say book as early as possible to get what you want, otherwise you have to settle for what you can get.”
Airline companies, cruise lines, and other travel outlets historically drop rates after the first of the year in hopes of drawing in travelers.
“They want to start off the year fresh and encourage people to travel, especially because there’s negativity about traveling,” Oconnor said, “They just want to get people out there to travel and experience the world, so they drop the prices.”
Taking advantage of the sales has the ability to save travelers thousands upon thousands of dollars.
“The flights will sell out especially Lubbock to Dallas because we have really small planes and they don’t accommodate a lot of people,” Oconnor said, “So they could be sold out on business travel or students commuting back and forth.”
Oconnor didn’t hesitate when asked the best time to book a trip. She said while some of her customers book 30 days out, it is still tough because a month is considered short notice for a vacation.
“Spring break is just terrible, April is filling up, June is really bad, so I would just recommend that as soon as you know for sure that you want to book, then I would book.”
The stakes of procrastination are high. Oconnor says not only do you miss out on discounts, but you risk missing out on your vacation completely.
“I can still get late-bookers to their destination, but they’ll have to have a higher budget.”
