Jehovah’s Witnesses from West Texas and Eastern New Mexico will soon hold their annual conventions at the Memorial Civic Center in Lubbock, Texas. They extend an open invitation for all to attend, regardless of religious affiliation or belief. The theme of this year’s program is “Remain Loyal to Jehovah!”
James Rogers, a local convention spokesman from Lovington, NM stated: “We believe that loyalty is an essential quality for all Christians. It helps strengthen the family, and, above all, one’s relationship with God. We are confident that all who attend will enjoy this Bible-based program.”
“It’s very family oriented,” said event spokesman Robert Sprecher, an elder at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Portales, NM.
Starting June 25th, and continuing for four weeks, Jehovah’s Witnesses throughout West Texas and Eastern New Mexico will extend personal invitations to everyone in the area to attend the convention. There is no admission fee and no collections are taken. Conventions of Jehovah’s Witnesses are supported entirely by voluntary donations.
The first of two three-day events to be held in Lubbock, Texas will begin Friday, July 15th, 2016, at 9:20 a.m. The second will begin Friday, July 22nd at 9:20 a.m. An estimated 2,100 will travel to the Memorial Civic Center each week for the Bible-based program.
Last year, Jehovah’s Witnesses in the United States organized 438 conventions—in 32 languages—in 110 cities. Worldwide, there are over 8,000,000 Witnesses in more than 115,000 congregations.
“Jehovah’s Witnesses dedicate themselves to live by God’s standards,” Sprecher said. “This is in imitation of Jesus. That’s why we go door to door … because we’re imitating what Jesus taught his disciples to do. In (the Gospel of) Matthew, he told his disciples to imitate him and go out and make disciples and teach them and baptize them.”
