Joyland amusement park has invited foster families from Buckner Children and Family Services to spend an evening in the park July 1 starting with a cookout at the park’s pavilion at 6 p.m.
According to a written statement from Buckner International, the park will open to the foster parents and children for free at 7 p.m. in recognition of foster care appreciation month. It is a closed event, but the families are invited to stay as long as they want.
Mandy Terry, Buckner foster care case manager for Lubbock, said foster parent appreciation is about celebrating the Buckner families.
“It’s a great chance for new families to meet others in our agency and build a network of support,” Terry said, “as well as allowing families that have been doing this for years catch up with one another. It allows the staff to have fun with the families without anything else on the agenda.”
The event was originally scheduled for June, but had to be postponed due to flooding at Joyland, according to the statement.
