KAMC’s Storm Team Meteorologist Alex O’Brien has the forecast for 4.9.19.

TODAY: The hottest day of the year so far may challenge record highs today. The forecast for Lubbock is 91° and the record stands at 94°. Winds will be slightly breezy up to 15 mph, but they will be welcome today to help cool us off! If you spend time outdoors today, stay hydrated and wear sunscreen.

TOMORROW: Wednesday will be very windy with extreme fire danger. Strong wording, yes, but for good reason! Winds may gust up to 70 mph which could cause power outages, minor structural damage, and blowing dust. Any sparks outside could cause rapid wildfire growth.

LOOKING AHEAD: Talk about changing spring weather! A cold front arrives Thursday morning that keep temperatures in the 60s through Friday. A light freeze is possible for some Friday morning, particularly north of Lubbock. Friday night a few showers are possible, continuing into the day Saturday. These will likely be scattered showers with minimal thunderstorm activity. Saturday will be chilly in the mid 50s, with another possible freeze overnight. By Sunday temperatures begin to rebound, climbing back to the 70s.
