Lori Manning and her family come to the Pancake House every weekend, so when their beloved waitress wasn’t there one weekend, they got worried.

“It’s like home. We know all the waiters and waitresses,” Manning said. “We usually try to sit in Angel’s section.”

Angel Lusk’s mobile home caught fire Saturday afternoon. She said volunteer firefighters battled the flames for hours, but the back half of the home was destroyed.

“All my kids’ things from school,” Angel said. “They’re sentimental, but they are just material things.”

Manning enlisted the help of the community, posting to Facebook and asking for donations.

“I was just devastated for her, and immediately started to think how could I help her,” Manning said. “I’ve been collecting things ever since then, and it’s been an adventure of compassion. I never dreamed I would have the responses that I did.”

She’s since set up a fund at Happy State Bank.

“It’s been a blessing because I really didn’t think it would go like this,” Lusk said.

Manning said it’s the least she can do to serve Angel, after so many years of good service…and friendship.

The Lusk family said they still have a long way to go and a lot to rebuild. If you’d like to help the family, you can donate to the “Angel Lusk Benefit Account” at Happy State Bank.
