From recent burglaries to cold cases from decades ago, the anonymous tip line Crimeline offers citizens the opportunity to give information to Lubbock Police, in return for a cash reward, if the tip leads to an arrest.
The President of the program Jim Sexton said since February 1st, he has given out three cash rewards of $5,000 for tips that led to arrests in murder cases.
“With the help of Crimeline, we’ve solved lot of murders and mysteries over the years,” Sexton said. “Some murders are never solved, but here we’ve got three solved just bam bam bam, you know? it was quick.”
Sexton has been on the board since Crimeline was created in the late 70’s. He said this was the most money they’ve given out so quickly.
“This is a pretty good indication, paying out 15,000 in a couple months here,” Sexton said. “This is kind of a large amount to pay out so quick, so if anyone out there has some extra cash, we’d appreciate it.”
They have some regular donors and a stream of income to keep them operating. Sexton said, if anyone believes in their mission to help LPD and other local authorities, they welcome donations.
“The public probably has no idea the money that we have paid out to make Lubbock a better place,” Sexton said. “Our police officers here do a wonderful, wonderful job. Crimeline just sits there waiting to help.”
