Over the last year Lubbock Police Department has responded to over 800 calls at the Cricket Court Apartments. Over the weekend, several people had their cars ransacked and valuables stolen overnight.
“I was speaking with one of my friends and she said, ‘You know, I’m missing something from my truck,'” Jaynell Cantrell said, “I came out here, and sure enough…”
Cantrell found her truck rifled through.
“I immediately knew,” Cantrell said, “So I started looking for my wallet, which I happened to have left in the truck that night, of course.”
In addition to her wallet, Cantrell said her children’s social security cards were also missing. She wasn’t the only victim; her dad’s truck was hit too, along with other neighbors’ cars.
“Sure enough, all their consoles had been gone through, and it added up to about five vehicles that we knew for sure.”
Cantrell said she thinks this incident points to a much larger issue.
“It seems like the crime has gotten a bit high lately. I’ve never had to worry about something like that before.”
Regardless, she said she won’t be leaving her car unlocked anymore.
“It’s a little bit harder with the car seat and diaper bag, but you know what, I’ll do it,” Cantrell said, “It’s fine.”
