Faith Christian Family Church was finally restored Tuesday after a thunderstorm last July caused the steeple to topple to the ground.

“We waited a long time on the insurance company. There were engineers involved, the City of Lubbock had to give approval,” said Shelly Swann, senior pastor at Faith Christian Family Church.

As part of the renovation, they traded in the steeple for a cross.

“We had a steeple before, which is fine, but we have the cross which is really the main thing. It’s what Christianity is about,” she said.

The reconstruction came with obstacles, including heavy winds that delayed the cross’s installation.

“They got up there the first time, and it almost blew them off the roof,” said Swann.

The construction crew added support to the roof to ensure they do not have a repeat of past events, said the building manager.

“It’s up there, and it’s secure. Our building has been remodeled as a result of it. It’s a win, not just for our church, but our community,” said Swann.

While the cross is secured, the remainder of construction will be completed by next week, according to the building manager.
