For many sports fans, tailgating is an essential part to the game day ritual. One family, made it their mission to bring along their trailer and grill, to support the Red Raiders wherever they went.
“We do everything Tech. We follow the football team, the basketball team, the baseball team,” said Barbara Ramirez, who throws these tailgates.
The Ramirez family’s love for tailgating only grew bigger when Barbara’s daughter bought her a tailgating trailer two years ago for Mother’s Day, she said. Since then, friends, families, and strangers join in on the festivities almost every time the Red Raiders take a step on a field or court.
“We’ve made friends from Lubbock, from all over the state, wherever we go,” said Barbara.
They tailgated last week’s Regional matchups and every day of the Super Regionals against Duke. Also in attendance at their festivities were parent’s of the Texas Tech baseball players.
“Since we have been keeping things going with the Regional and Super Regional, now we are back with Chito and Barbara Ramirez, and they have a great crowd,” said Patrick Dusek, father of Pitcher, Dylan Dusek.
Dusek tailgates with the Ramirez family often, and called them a “blast.”
“Family and entertainment, they’ve got it going on and he’s a great cook. We have friends, a great team.”
The tailgates were filled with food, drinks, people, and a TV airing the game. Even people from out of town joined in on the excitement.
“We just walked up and asked if we could join their party and they were open arms, people here are awesome,” said Jodey Langehennig from Mason.
While the evening ended in a disappointing defeat, Barbara said they would be out in the same spot tomorrow, cheering on their Red Raiders.
“We were here last weekend, we were here this weekend, and we are going to Omaha next weekend,” said Ramirez.
