Lubbock Fire Rescue along with Lubbock Police rescued a man on Monday evening, after he was stuck for more than two hours in a rolled over semi-truck. Because the man did not have severe injuries, rescue crews took their time to save him as carefully as possible, according to LFR Capt. Kevin Ivy.
The man was rescued at approximately 8:40 p.m. after overturning his truck shortly after 6 p.m. Upon the fire crew’s arrival, they immediately called heavy rescue, Ivy said.
“The good thing about this one, when we got there, the driver was not critical, so he was actually talking to our personnel. As soon as we got there, we put some of our medical people inside the cab with him and they started treating him at that point,” said Ivy.
The man’s arm was stuck as a result of the crash, said police.
Because of the incline on the hill, rescue crews needed to stop the truck from sliding down the hill before they could rescue him, said Ivy.
“They had to work on both sides, getting it stabilized from top and bottom, using some equipment up top, using chains and things like that, and also stabilized him on the bottom side,” said Ivy.
The man was responsive throughout the save, and Ivy said communication was key in getting him out safe while also keeping crews safe.
He was taken to the hospital by EMS with moderate injuries. His current condition is unknown.
