September 5 marks four years since Robert Rey Ramirez was shot and killed in his Central Lubbock front yard.
“I come and bring our kids every once in awhile to come and visit and we explain to them, ‘Grandpa is in heaven,'” said his daughter, Alexis Ramirez.
Every year they decorate his grave site, remembering their father.
“If he was here he would say, ‘Well, don’t worry about it, you know you have to forgive the people that did this to me. Don’t cry and stay strong,'” Ramirez said.
But his daughter says she hopes police arrest a suspect soon.
“Just not knowing, like, when they will find the person, like, when we will get peace for my dad? Knowing he’s still out there, living his life,” Ramirez said.
Ramirez was outside his home with his son when he was killed in a drive-by shooting.
“My dad, he was an outgoing person. He loves to joke around, he was a big Steelers fan, he loves to do barbecues, he loves his family,” Ramirez said.
Witnesses say the suspect got away in a Dodge Magnum. The family hopes someone who saw something or knows something will finally come forward.
“We never got to say our goodbyes because we never knew this was going to happen, so just maybe to give him one last hug,” Ramirez said.
His daughter said she still wants justice for Ramirez’s death. Police encourage anyone who knows something to come forward with any information. It can be anonymous. If you know anything, call Crime Line at 741-1000.
