An 18-year-old was killed early Thursday morning after he was struck by a vehicle, the Lubbock Police Department said.

Davion Boswell, 18, was pronounced dead at the scene, according to an LPD news release.

The driver of the vehicle, 23-year-old Laura Reynolds, was placed under arrest for DWI and was transported to the Lubbock County Detention Center.

LPD said it appeared Boswell was riding a bicycle southbound in the 1000 block of Slide Road when Reynolds’ car, also traveling south, struck him.

Ramon Betancur, a close friend of Boswell, said he believes Boswell was riding his bike to meet him at Betancur’s home. Betancur said Boswell was well liked by everyone and will be dearly missed.

“We just knew him so well, but especially me because that was my best friend,” said Betancur. “He was cool with everyone, he was just a really nice person, would take the shirt off his back for you.”

Detectives in LPD’s Accident Investigation Unit plan to investigate this case further by mapping the scene Friday, June 29, beginning at 8:30 a.m. Investigators will shut down both north and southbound lanes of Slide Road, from 4th to 13th street. Detectives anticipate the mapping to take about three hours.

LPD will continue its investigation and said additional charges are possible.
