Jessica Chastain is Molly Bloom, a real-life, world-class skier who went from an Olympic hopeful to running the world’s most exclusive, high-roller poker games. The FBI busted her in 2013, accusing her of being in cahoots with the Russian mob. Idris Elba and Kevin Costner also star in the R-rated drama. It’s getting generally good reviews, and Chastain shines. Place your bets on Molly’s Game, only at the Alamo Drafthouse.
The Lubbock Symphony Orchestra presents French Impressions later this month. The concert features the works of Ravel and Debussy, and features renowned pianist Adam Golka — no stranger to Lubbock audiences. There are only two performances, Friday and Saturday night, the 19th and 20th at the Civic Center Theater. Get your $25 to $50 tickets through lubbocksymphony.org.
And now that the holiday cheer is done…. it’s time for horror. Insidious: The Last Key will terrify you this weekend. After three episodes in the franchise, Elise has to face her own childhood fears in her childhood home, with a “thing” that has keys for fingers. The PG-13 shocker runs less that two hours, and the reviews are scary, too. Try not to scream in the Alamo Drafthouse, Tinseltown or Stars & Stripes.
