Two family nurse practitioners at Covenant Health Plainview decided to take a new career path later in life, proving that it’s never too late to go for your dreams.
Family nurse practitioner Greg Curry loves his job at Covenant Health Plainview, but he wasn’t always helping patients.
“I felt a need wasn’t being fulfilled,“ said Curry.
Curry used to be in sales, but after a recent scouting trip, Curry decided he wanted to become a nurse.
“I came back and I told my wife this is wonderful. I want to do this but I really didn’t know how to go about it,“ explained Curry. “So I dropped everything I was doing, left my job and went to nursing school.“
Curry says it was challenging, but he’s happy that he decided to do it.
And he’s not the only one making a big life change later in life.
“I love school and I love learning,“ explained family nurse practitioner Robin Stanfield.
Stanfield also works at Covenant Health Plainview.
She used to be an ER nurse, until she decided she wanted to go back to school to become a FNP.
Stanfield says it’s a very different mindset than the fast paced emergency room.
“In the ER you’re trying to get someone out of an immediate situation and working in primary care you’re trying to prevent that,“ said Stanfield.
Curry says he eventually he wants to get his doctoral degree in nursing, to help patients even more.
“I love the ability to help other people,“ Curry said.
