Healthcast : A Study on Childhood Cancer & Risk of Cardiovascular Disease

Children who survived cancer are at higher risk for developing cardiovascular disease prematurely as adults. German researchers found cardiovascular disease in four and a half percent of childhood cancer survivors they studied, with most developing problems before age 40. That’s eight years earlier than the general population.

Vitamin D may help protect heart tissue. New research from the journal “Heart Lung and Circulation” shows vitamin D may prevent scarring and thickening of heart tissue in mice after a heart attack.


A new experimental cream could be promising to treat a type of eczema. Scientists in New Orleans found the mixture of antioxidants, moisturizers and other compounds suppressed an inflammation response. They said the experimental cream could be an alternative to steroid creams and their side effects.
