Millions of Americans taking common heartburn and ulcer medications may face a higher risk of death. That’s according to doctors at Washington University School of Medicine. They found the longer patients take proton pump inhibitors such as Prevacid, Prilosec, and Nexium, the higher the risk.

New research suggests people with shingles are more likely to have a heart attack and stroke. Doctors in South Korea said the reactivation of the chicken pox virus raised the risk 41-percent. The Centers for Disease Control said nearly one third of Americans develops shingles in their lifetime. 

A study funded by the National Institutes of Health may shed new light on the mystery of sudden infant death syndrome. Researchers in Boston found 31 percent of babies who died of sudden infant death syndrome had high levels of serotonin in their blood. Serotonin is a neurotransmitter that helps carry brain signals through the body.
