LUBBOCK, Texas — Being in the hospital is no fun, especially if you’re a kid.
But at Covenant Children’s even the housekeeping staff is doing what they can to make the hospital a happier place.
A couple of months ago the hospital decided to wrap the cleaning machines to make them more appealing to kids.
“We have two dinosaurs and two octopuses,” said Dan Berger, manager of Environmental Services at Covenant Children’s.
“We had heard that another hospital in Nebraska had done this,” explained Kelly Flippen, Director of Environmental Services at Covenant Children’s. “We’re only the second or third hospital in the country who has done this.”
It’s a little thing, but it’s making a big difference.
“It’s just a character that now goes through instead of a piece of noisy equipment,” Flippen said.
“Since then we’ve gotten a lot of good comments,” Berger said. “The patients up on the floor want to interact with the machines. They don’t bother them and they seem to be glad to see the machines go through because they recognize the octopus or the dinosaur.”
Just one more way to make this a comfortable place for kids not a scary place.
“It’s a good thing and it makes them smile,” Berger said.
