Covenant Health is celebrating 100 years of service this year.

And they’re celebrating in a big way by giving back to the community.

Recently, a group of people from Covenant helped at Second Helpings, an organization through First United Methodist Church that serves hot meals to low income families and the homeless in the Lubbock community.

Covenant doctors, nurses and staff have been busy volunteering at a number of places this year.

Their goal is 1,000 hours of volunteer work for 100 years of service.

“It’s just Covenant’s way of involving the staff and caregivers with the community and helping any way we can to show our love for the community and our intention of service for the next 100 years,” explained Karen Worley with Covenant Health.

“It makes me happy,” said volunteer Sandra Flores.

Flores is a Registered Nurse at Covenant in Plainview.

She’s been to every volunteer event Covenant has had this year and she’s brought her two kids with her every time.

“As parents this is our legacy to teach our kids to volunteer, get involved and assist others as much as we can,” explained Flores.

“It’s taught me a sense of responsibility and I’m thankful for her to teach me that,” said Flores’ daughter Leslie.

Flores says she’s happy to give back to the community that has given so much to Covenant.

“If you look at the values of Covenant, service is one of our values. So we try to honor those values and that’s what we’re here for,” Flores said.

Covenant workers have also volunteered at the Ronald McDonald House and the South Plains Food Bank.
