Healthcast: Every Heart Needs a Home

A new mural sits in the lobby of Covenant Children’s Hospital.

It’s on loan from the Children’s Home of Lubbock which helps children find forever homes whether it’s through foster care or adoption.

One of those children is 17-year-old J’via Tungate.

She was recently adopted and she and her sister Ella helped put this mural together.

“I’m not moving around so much I’m staying and I’m here for good,” J’via said when thinking back before she was adopted.

“Everybody deserves to have a family because we’re all human and we’re all the same so we should all have families,” said Ella.

“We just want to help as many kids as we can,” explained mom Carrie Tungate.”There are just so many foster kids out there and there’s not enough families especially in this region.”

Covenant hopes stories like the Tungate’s will inspire others to make a difference.

“We’re all about kids and we’re all about what’s best for kids,” said Amy Thompson, CEO of Covenant Children’s Hospital. “I can’t think of what’s better for kids than fostering and even fostering to adopt. We just see so many kids who’s lives have changed.”

Lives like J’via who says her heart is full and happy.

“It’s a good choice because there’s people out there who don’t have families and they need families,” J’via said.

“Take the leap because they’re just kids and none of them did anything to put themselves in this position but they still deserve to be loved,” Tungate said.
