Heart health is very important.
That’s why for the fourth year, Covenant Health Plainview along with the Hale County Health Department is teaming up for a heart health forum.
Cardiologist Dr. Kevin Jones will be the speaker.
“We feel education is important because there are groups out there that are not being evaluated that don’t go to the doctor and don’t get treatment and may not have good access to care,” explained Dr. Jones. “This is a free service that it provided with information and in this case testing so we can start a conversation and get these patients the care that they need.”
This year, the focus is cholesterol.
“Most everyone is surprised about their cholesterol,” Dr. Jones said. “Left unchecked it’s a major risk factor for heart attack or stroke and cardiovascular disease which is the number one killer in America.”
The event will be at the Hale County Health Department at 111 E. 10th Street in Plainview.
It’s two fold and it’s all free.
On Monday, February 25th, people will get their cholesterol drawn.
Then on Thursday, February 28th at noon, Dr. Jones will go over cholesterol management.
Dr. Jones says if people find out they need extra care to get their cholesterol back in check they’ll help them make that next step.
Covenant Health Plainview offers a number of tests, but if a patient needs heart surgery, that happens at Covenant Health Lubbock.
Then the patient will go back to Plainview for treatment.
