Lubbock residents on Monday were still cleaning up and digging out from a winter storm that hit on Saturday with 10 inches or more of snow.
The winter storm kept city workers busy keeping citizens safe and clearing the roads. Tow truck companies and hospitals recognized the city’s hard work, saying it helped prevent major accidents.
Dr. Brian Schroeder with Covenant Health said there had been less than two dozen weather-related accidents.
“We did see a few more patients in the emergency department with a few fender benders, a few minor accidents, but mostly slip and fall kind of injuries,” said Schroeder.
In October, the hospital, city, and other county agencies gathered to discuss plans in case of a massive snow storm, like the blizzard in 2015, according to Schroeder.
Meanwhile, A & J Towing kept busy, responding to about 30 calls. However, A & J said none were major.
“The main things we were called for this weekend were flat tires, bent wheels, and minor accidents,” said James Lindsey, a truck driver for A & J Towing.
Both companies said compared to 2015, the city managed the storm conditions very well.
“The city did an amazing job at keeping the streets clear,” said Schroeder.
