The Texas Rangers are investigating an incident where a Texas Department of Public Safety trooper shot a suspect. According to DPS, the incident happened Saturday afternoon in Cochran County around 12:30.

According to DPS, Cochran County Sheriff’s Office tried to stop a suspect on Texas 114 west of Morton. The suspect had earlier pointed a rifle at the Sheriff after he responded to a call at the suspect’s home.

The suspect evaded arrest, leading law enforcement on a chase westbound on Texas 114 in a pickup. A short time later a DPS Trooper shot the suspect, who was then airlifted to a local hospital.

A handgun, two rifles and a large amount of ammunition were found inside the suspect’s truck.

DPS said the investigation is still ongoing.
