A kitten died after it was left outside the South Plains SPCA in a box with no food, water or shade, during their closed hours. When this caught wind on social media, the community stepped up to help.
Many people donated money for signs, lights, and cameras, to make it clear animals cannot be left outside, and catch anyone who tries to leave an animal.
“Right now, we have a girl willing to match up to $500 worth of donations. Right now, we have $350 in a day, which is awesome. Thank you Lubbock,” said Kathy Wheeler with the South Plains SPCA.
The SPCA is an animal rescue that finds foster homes for these animals, it is not a shelter, said Wheeler.
“A foster based rescue, like the majority of rescues in Lubbock County, and the South Plains area, they can only take in as many animals as we have people to take them home with,” said Wheeler.
They are only open on Saturdays due to limited volunteers and funds, so they recommened reaching out to them directly if you need help with an animal.
