After sharing lip-syncing videos, law enforcement officers across Texas and on the South Plains have gone viral on social media this week.

For these officers, the videos showed they are more than their tough exterior.

“As soon as I got off shift, I pulled up to the house, pulled up one of my favorite songs by Ramon Ayala, sang it that one time and it was a take,” said Sgt. Reuben Ramon of the Floydada Police Department.

Texas officers are taking a break from fighting crime this week to engage in another kind of battle: the lip-syncing challenge that’s been going around on social media.

For one officer, he wants people to know he is more than just his badge.

“There’s another side to us, with all the negative that’s out there in the world nowadays, there is another side to law enforcement that people don’t see,” Ramon said.

Sgt. Ramon garnered more than 70,000 views on his video so far.

“The main feedback that I’ve gotten from this, [is that] everyone is glad to see someone local doing it,” Ramon said.

Other officers are joining in. They say it’s motivating law enforcement to show another side of themself.

“Usually when they see us, it’s under stressful situations,” Marco Martinez, Floyd County deputy sheriff, said. “They’re not at their best, we have to be firm and we don’t get to show our personal character.”

Sgt. Ramon said he might take this challenge to the next level.

“I’ve had someone challenge me to do a real singing one, so there may be a part two coming soon,” Ramon said.
