LUBBOCK, Texas — During the summer, Lubbock Independent School District hopes to curve hunger by serving children nutritious meals as part of their summer meal program.

The children do not have to be a part of LISD to receive a meal, which are served at 15 schools throughout the community. Seven additional schools serve food during summer school.

“If we don’t have good places they have access to, then juts because we have the meals, doesn’t mean they are here to eat them,” said Lori Johnson, the director for Child Nutrition for Lubbock ISD.

In addition, the school continued their “Feed Your Future” initiative. Once a week, they will hold a seminar at a select school on different career options.

“We started the program last year to attract secondary students without a stigma and have another reason to come to lunch,” Johnson said. “The other part of it was just to inspire different interest topics the students may be interested in.”

Meals are served Monday through Thursday for breakfast and lunch. For a complete list of lunch and seminar times and locations, go to www.LubbockISD.org.
