Lubbock Police respond to shooting, one victim taken to hospital

On Wednesday before 8:00 p.m., Lubbock Police responded to a shooting in the 2100 block of Clovis Road.  Initially, police said the shooting might have been an accidental discharge, but a police report later revealed it was an aggravated assault investigation.

Police said a call came in from a family saying their nephew had been shot.  A gunshot victim was taken to University Medical Center and a teenage suspect was arrested.

The location was a tattoo shop.

According to the police report which was released on Thursday morning, there was an argument between the suspect and the victim, identified as Brian Aguilar, 34, about car parts.  Aguilar was asked to leave but he came back into the shop.

The teenager pointed a gun at Aguilar and shot him in the right shoulder.

The teenage ran away but later came back and surrendered to police. Because of his age, the name of the suspect was not publicly released.

The teen’s family said it’s a case of self-defense.

CORRECTION: Aguilar was the person asked to leave the shop.
