Neighbors in East Lubbock are pleading to the city to put a stop sign in their neighborhood.

Resident Lee Caballero said he has witnessed several accidents near his home. He said the intersection at East 2nd Street and Beech Avenue needs to have a stop sign.

“You can tell it’s supposed to be a stop sign so that people will stop,” Caballero said.

Neighbors saying cars and even buses roll through that area without even looking.

“You’ll see buses coming through here don’t even stop either, big buses,” Caballero said. “I see it all the time up here. I see it go on day and night.”

He said the fence he put up to slow drivers down has been hit three times.

“The two times they had insurance, but the third person that hit it didn’t have insurance. That’s the reason my fence is all crooked because they didn’t cover it,” Caballero said.

Other neighbors agree, saying it has been a problem for years.

“As far as my yard, the hedges right there, yes, I’ve had them drive through the hedges right there and barely miss the front of my house,” said Gay Anderson. “Coming through, I’ve had it happen once, but I’ve never had it happen but that one time, but they will run up in your yard.”

As for Caballero, he is worried about his grandchildren when they play in the yard.

“If they come straight through the fence and the kids are in the pool or the slip-and-slide, they are gonna get run over when they come through again,” Caballero said.
