Lubbock Fire Rescue responded to an industrial accident just before 10:00 a.m. just east of Avenue Q where it crosses the Canyon Lakes System.

A man slipped and fell into a trench at a work site.  LFR said the man was conscious and alert.  The LFR Heavy Rescue team was able to get the man out of the trench at about 10:40 a.m.

“The patient was 15-foot deep inside a trench box here in this construction site,” said Steve Holland, Battalion Chief with LFR.  “This is part of the drainage system that they’ve been working on for a number of years.”

“We don’t think the injuries at this time are significant,” Holland said.  “His arm was splinted.”

EMS took the man to a local hospital.

Holland said the workers on site were contracted with the city but they were not city employees.
