The Salvation Army and Meals on Wheels teamed up for the first time to deliver meals on Thanksgiving Day to make sure everyone got to celebrate.  More than 50 volunteers delivered 250 meals on Thursday morning.

“She calls me real quick and says I need an answer, ‘Do you want to do Meals on Wheels?’ and I’m like absolutely, sign me up,'” said Maria Chavira.

Chavira’s family volunteered with her. They all agreed it’s important to give back during holidays and be grateful for what you have.

“It helps us appreciate more of what we have,” said Maria Kopel, another volunteer. “Some of these people don’t have family, they’re alone. And to be able to give them that piece of joy. And to let them know somebody out there cares.”

Chavira’s 11-year old daughter, Faith, also joined the family on their morning of volunteering.

“Just doing good and helping the community. Just getting out there and helping people,” said Faith Crevino.

And for a tight knit family on Thanksgiving, they hope this becomes their new tradition.

“We were super excited to do it as a family, said Chavira. “We were very grateful that we were invited to volunteer. Just to get out there and remind people that we’re all family. And Thanksgiving isn’t the only time to remind people that we’re all family. We’re family always.”
