MedMinute: Are childhood deaths on the decline?

Childhood deaths from pneumonia and meningitis-related bacteria dropped sharply over a fifteen year span through 2015.  Scientists at Johns Hopkins Bloomberg said more than a million children’s lives were saved by vaccines and better hygiene and access to health care. 

Researchers in North Carolina analyzed data from about 10,000 adolescents and young adults found girls were less physically active than their male counterparts. Physical activity took an especially hard hit as girls’ transitioned from adolescence to adulthood. 


A new study suggested people with high-blood pressure may do better with just a single pill.  Doctors in Canada found patients taking single-pill combinations had a significantly lower rate of death and hospitalization for heart attacks, heart failure or stroke.
