MedMinute: Brain stimulation used to treat Parkinson’s disease

A new study at Vanderbilt University showed promise for Parkinson’s patients in the early stages of the disease. Researchers said deep brain stimulation treatments slowed the progression of tremors. Doctors said a large-scale clinical trial is needed.

Doctors in Denmark tracking thousands of young cancer survivors found many at a higher risk of endocrine problems.  Researchers said patients diagnosed with their first cancers between ages 15 and 39 were more prone to thyroid disease, testicular dysfunction, and diabetes.

Even low levels of air pollution can contribute signficantly to diabetes risk, according to researchers in Saint Louis who found pollution levels considered “safe” reduced insulin production and triggered inflammation.
